IP Virtual Hosts On Apache Are A Pain In The Ass

Monday, March 22nd, 2004

5 more days to FYP submission!

Anyways, besides that ever-pressing deadline, today was another frustrating Linux configuration practical - frustrating as in it takes so much time just to get IP-based virtual hosts working on Apache. Sheesh. Sure, its cool and all that, but configuring it is a pain in the ass.

Oh yeah, a friend of mine got a new power adapter for his laptop since his original one was dying, due to a suspected capacitor charge holding problem. The new power adapter is way cool! It costs only slightly above $50, and comes with many many socket heads to connect to different devices, and can adjust the voltage output (18 to 21 volts if I remember)! Pretty cool, huh? It’s well worth the $50.

So What’s The Sitch?

Wednesday, March 17th, 2004

Haha I’m too overjoyed today…my project’s on track and will complete JUST in time. On a totally different topic, I just did a Google search with the terms “Kim Possible” blog singapore…hmmm…appears that a few Singapore KP fans exist! LOL…but their age groups are like 12 to 16…ah well. No big. And doing a Google search for What’s the Sitch will return my blog as the second hit as of 10:07pm GMT +0800 hours. Woah.

FYP Coding Hell

Monday, March 15th, 2004

It seems that everyone’s rushing to complete their projects these days. Busy busy busy. Well at least theirs has an ending, but mine doesn’t, because I’m obliged to complete the information system for my secondary school. The basics have to be completed by the FYP deadline as per normal, and then after that I have to continue, which might take some time, but I can slack a lot since there’s no hurry to complete it yet…hopefully I can finish it off by middle if this year a complete system with a few bonus features in it then I can leave it in peace (hopefully, if nothing goes wrong with my system). Ah well, enough blogging, its time for me to jack back into the Matrix. Ciao.

I Was Molested By A Secondary School Girl

Monday, March 8th, 2004

Basket, a lower-sec girl I don’t know pushed my behind to get me out of the way while I was climbing up the stairs…luckily she was playing catching in school with some friends of hers (or being chased, whatever they were doing). Tsk. Must beware of kiddies running about when I go back to my sec sch next time.

Well today was quite an OK day, except for the ass-grabbing. Went to school to attend a talk about Open Source Computing by some guy from the Linux Users Group Singapore in place of my WSAS practical today because our tutor told us to attend the talk as it is related to what we are going to do for this term - installing, configuring and securing Apache HTTPd. LOL! The guy showed the audience his GNOME Desktop interface, and I THINK the audience was impressed, but not for me and probably some other student who have come across Linux. Slick looks, but its no big deal. Its just the KDE/GNOME interface sitting on top of a virtual console. And “normal” users complain that the Linux OS is hard to master. Bah, I was using Yggdrasil Linux when I was primary 5, and back then, no games meant that the computer is useless (ah, I was young and carefree…). KDE and GNOME didn’t even exist back then, they only started in 1996, and all I got was X11 Windows, which was totally bad, but at least more bearable than staring at a screen filled with black and white text, and it was buggy. Heck, now with all these fancy window managers for Linux, I STILL have to resort to the console in order to access a few things during practical. Well, I’d like to play with Linux, just that I don’t have time to do so. Anyways after that talk I went back to my sec school to present my progress to my HOD/IT. So far he’s reserved about my progress, but I believe that I can finish it on time.

NSC Participants: OWNED

Thursday, March 4th, 2004

I finally found a nice David Tao song…LOL! “Angel”. Nice and sentimental. Basket, my laptop doesn’t play those nice songs at home - when I go to school it plays them. Hmmm…it must hate me or something. =)

Today was quite fun…had WSAS test this morning (its a cakewalk!) and then slack in school at the MMTC. A few of my friends who were participating in the NSC were practicing their PHP skills there…and because I was bored with coding my FYP, I helped them to code a bit. Haha…they all were like surprised that my code works whereas theirs don’t! Hehe…maybe I’m just used to it lah, I’ve been doing PHP since year 2, but I never had time to code one *proper* application. Perhaps I should have participated in the NSC…ah well, I have no regrets at all (does that sound familiar? Hehe =P) for not joining.

Well, that’s all for now, gotta go back to staring at my codes.

Why were you here this afternoon? Are you doing your work or something else, or both at the same time? I hope not. In any case, I’m just keeping to my word. I know you’re tired, and probably feeling down too. If you’re watching out for me…then I’m watching out for you too. Not that I mean anything.

Ecquaria Visit

Sunday, February 22nd, 2004

Just prepared my leather shoes for tomorrow’s visit to Ecquaria. If I had my way I’d prefer to wear “slack wear” but noo we have to “maintain a good image of our polytechnic”. Well, I don’t give a damn, I rather show my true self than hide it behind a shirt and a tie and say hidden words.

Checklist for tomorrow:
1) Shirt - OK
2) Tie - OK
3) Dress pants - OK
4) Belt - OK
5) Sunglasses - OK

Should I wear white or blue top? Hmm…

Coincidental Thoughts About And From The Service Centre

Tuesday, February 17th, 2004

Basket, I collected my friends’ CD-ROM drive (with new interface card and connector) from MeL Service Centre (totally by chance that the people there called me this morning to say that the drive is read for collection) and had to send in my laptop for servicing also (and that was planned).
