Caught High School Musical 3 at Sun Plaza today with my sister and her friend. It feels very different from watching HSM on TV, as compared to watching in the cinema – somehow there’s something missing (the “Disney Family Feeling”?). The start of the movie was good, with the set-up of the story and plot, and new characters. Then the pace slowed down, and droned into the main storyline, which as been recycled since the first HSM, albeit with a slight twist. Thankfully, the plot picked up speed nearing the end of the show, and left me remiscing the warm fuzzy feeling of my final year in secondary school. However, the resolution of the conflicts in the movie were not resolved till late in the movie, but dramatized with music – perhaps to generate sales from the soundtrack. The music, as usual, is good, but sometimes the feeling that it has been over-used in the movie lingers while watching it. Oddly, Jemma McKenzie-Brown (Tiara Gold) – and on an experience level – Alyson Reed (Ms Darbus) seem to outshine the rest of the cast.
Verdict: 4/5 if it were shown on TV, 3.5/5 in the cinema.
