When I Am About To Go For Leave, Shit Happens
Okay this week has been busy, so I’ll do a quick recap:
Monday - The sec 5 F&N gal had a turn of bad luck and lost her thumbdrive containing her F&N coursework. Thankfully, there’s a hard copy with the teacher, so I’ll just need to OCR the 40 (or so) pages - that is, when the teacher finishes marking the paper first, as there is no point OCR-ing the paper that has not been marked.
Tuesday - Was called a “very old korkor” while on the way home by the-crazy-girl-with-the-same-surname-as-me. Also, some of the sec 2s left their school bags in the library, so I ended up waiting for them to come back and pick up their stuff after I locked the library because I don’t feel its right to touch their stuff?
Wednesday - One of the switches in the server room failed, and because its in use by at least 2 labs, I swapped out the CISCO 2948 switch with a Linksys 24-port switch and a 3Com 24-port switch. Because of the design of the rack, I could not plug in 8 cables as the ports were blocked by the cable management sections. All I can do is pray that the replacement arrives fast. Before going home, I was called “Soh ?” by the-crazy-girl-with-the-same-surname-as-me just after locking up the library with my colleague. Also, my Sandisk Cruzer Titanium thumbdrive failed on me today. I think it has something to do with the connection inside the thumbdrive as it can only be detected if I insert it into the USB port in a certain manner. I managed to copy out my data to my other thumbdrive (Cruzer Micro) and scramble the thumbdrive and prepare for RMA tomorrow at Funan.
Thursday - Cleared one day leave because if I don’t clear my leave before my 12th contractual month, it will be forfeited. Anyway, I headed down to Funan today to RMA my thumbdrive.
Friday - The replacement CISCO switch came and after installation and configuration, the switch wasn’t actually spoilt - the fibre optic module on another CISCO switch was having problems, and the solution was to simply pull it out and push it back in again. After that, everything went back to normal. Phew.
Saturday - Got hooked on Warhammer 40K Dawn of War: Dark Crusade and played as the Necron. Went out with my army friends to supposedly “celebrate” CH’s birthday, but in the end it wasn’t his birthday. I arrived half and hour early, so I headed down to Sim Lim Square to grab a few pricelists and then head back to Bugis to wait for the rest of the guys. In the end, we ate at Swenson’s at Bugis. Mental note to never order salmon.
Well, that’s all for this week. My ZoomXtreme ZX-8 external hard disk casing just died on me today, so I have to RMA it tomorrow (which is another leave day for me). Sigh, when I am about to go for leave, shit happens.
I checked the ROM website for fun, and I realized two things:
a) You have to pay $35 to search the records to see if a person is married or not.
b) As of today, out of the top 10 FAQ questions listed on the website, 4 are related to divorce, and 2 are related to marriage with a non-Singaporean. There you have it, the reasons why our birth rates are so low.
