Stories from the frontlines of tech support

I was assigned to a primary school in the east during the sec 1 posting time, and here are some interesting stories

1. A boy almost got enrolled in an all-girls’ school because his mum mistook the school for a mixed or boys’ school. Thank goodness the system refused the data entry until the error was corrected. I can barely imagine the horror pre-computerized sec 1 postings were.

2. I saw a parent who was quite pissed off with another parent a la “I Not Stupid 3″. From what I can tell, Parent A is upset at the fact that her daughter got into Normal(Academic) stream, while Parent B was like a normal Singaporean. What I think happened was that Parent A could have previously boasted about her daughter’s grades to Parent B, and subsequently the PSLE score was not as expected.

3. One or two parents were so rushed to get their children enrolled they forgot to sign a verification slip required for confirmation of enrollment.

4. A few kids turned up without their parents/guardians, thinking that they can get their best buddy to sign for them. Which is totally not allowed.

5. Nowadays, if the parents cannot come with their child, they would need to sign a proxy form allowing “guardians” to sign on their behalf, almost just like shareholders voting at an AGM.

That’s all for now, from a tired old soldier.
